Watch a webinar on recommitting to road safety: The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) is hosting a webinar discussing the Second Decade of Action for Road Safety, which has the target to reduce road deaths and injuries by at least 50% globally by 2030. Throughout the webinar, speakers will provide examples of case studies and good practices that demonstrate how policies can lead to scalable action for safer streets. Celebrate one year of Hill Family Biking: Since April of 2023, Hill Family Biking has been holding monthly family-friendly bike rides to inspire families on Capitol Hill to take cycling seriously. On Saturday, April 27, they are hosting a block party at Maury Elementary to commemorate one year of great rides. Come celebrate by participating in their 4.3 mile ride celebrating the new Potomac Ave and 19th St bike lanes and block party in front of Maury Elementary. At the block party there will be fun activities, food, and more! The community ride begins at 4:00 pm and the block party begins at 5:00 pm. The event starts and ends at Maury Elementary. Explore the relationship between placemaking and public art: Artists Zaq Landsberg and Nekisha Durrett are holding a conversation about both the rewards and challenges of public art and the complex nature of monuments and memorials at the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington. Maya Hopkins is an Engagement Intern at GGWash. She grew up in Gaithersburg, MD and is a senior at The University of Maryland, College Park. She is pursuing a double major in Operations Management & Business Analytics and Information Systems with a minor in Nonprofit Leadership and Social Innovation. Maya is proud to call the DMV metro area her home and is interested in using her degree to improve the quality of life of her DMV neighbors in any way possible.
